As time goes on, your body shows signs of wear and tear. It’s totally normal. Some of us rely on anti-aging products and procedures to help turn back time. One of these procedures is botox. Botox is a drug that temporarily reduces signs of aging on the face and other parts of the body. By weakening or paralyzing specific muscles or nerves, botox injections help people restore a youthful glow to their skin. In addition to changing your skin’s appearance, it can also change your skin’s level of sensitivity. Here are 6 tips for after botox care and an easy recovery process.
Sit Upright
It’s important to avoid lying down right after botox.
Sure, naps after procedures are tempting, but hear us out. Many of us roll over as we sleep, which means you could roll right onto your face and hinder the effects of the injection. If you’ve gotten botox on your forehead, lying down right away can prevent the drug from tracking into your eyelid. Hello, droopy eyelid! Most dermatologists recommend waiting at least 4 hours after your procedure before lying down.
Don’t Be Surprised If Something Unexpected Happens
Everyone reacts differently to botox. Some people have no issues, while others experience swelling and skin irritation. You’ve injected a foreign substance into your body, so there may be a few side effects, ranging from redness and bruising to fever and coughing. You may also find that your skin’s sensitivity has increased. If that’s the case, your regular skin care may cause more irritation than normal. We recommend keeping a few sensitive skin care items around in case this happens. Our Moisturizing Face Cream is always a good choice! If you’re looking for one that’ll help you feel youthful, opt for our Q10 Protection Cream.
Embrace Ice
Like with other injections, botox can lead to swelling near the injection site. No fear, ice is here! Lightly placing a bag of ice or a cold compress on the affected area right after treatment allows for quick relief.
Limit Heat Exposure
Heat after botox is another big no-no. In general, too much heat can irritate your skin. Combine that with the increased sensitivity that comes with botox and you’ve got a recipe for aggravation.
Until the redness and swelling have completely dissipated, it’s best to avoid excessive heat. High temperatures will only worsen these side effects and increase recovery time.
Avoid Touching Your Skin
We all know that touching our faces isn’t the best idea, especially when you have sensitive skin. After botox, bothering the injection site in any way can cause unwanted results. The botox could also disperse and you won’t end up seeing the effects you want. Yes, the injection area may feel irritated, but resist the urge to massage it! Your skin will surely thank you.
Know That Results Are On the Way
You can’t rush greatness. In the same vein, you can’t rush the effects of botox. Many botox users see results at around 2 weeks! Don’t worry about rushing 🙂 Botox aftercare is all about taking it easy.
