Spa Shower helps you relax on Day of Unplugging

If your phone is permanently attached to your hand, you’re not alone. A recent survey revealed that 75 percent of adults consider themselves addicted to their phones. Also, a whopping 65 percent admitted to checking their phone at least 160 times per day.

Digital life has become the norm and makes us feel connected to the world around us. But what if we told you that it has adverse effects on your mental health. In honor of the National Day of Unplugging, we break down reasons why stepping away from your phone is the best form of self-care.

Increased Screen Time and Your Mental Health

While glaring at your phone may seem like a mindless activity, it comes with some serious repercussions. Studies show that there is a correlation between social media use and increased risk of depression in young adults.

It’s worth mentioning that social media use itself isn’t to blame poor mental health. Researchers say that those who are most impacted by social media are more likely to engage in negative behaviors

Some of these behaviors include comparing themselves to others and showing concern about being tagged in unflattering photos — we’ve all been there. What’s even more jarring is that your phone can actually feed unhealthy coping mechanisms.

A 2015 study found that those who already experience anxiety and depression turn to their phone as a distraction from negative feelings. Overtime this coping technique will make matters worse.

Increased phone use takes you away from facing your issues head-on. They also take you away from engaging in healing activities like exercising, socializing, or meditating.

Unplugging for Self Care

The average person spends around 2 hours and 30 minutes scrolling on social media. Not meaning to sound preachy but this is precious time you could spend doing something meaningful. Here are some ways you can unplug and get in some self-care time:

Socialize

Don’t underestimate the power of human connection. Socializing can actually increase dopamine in your brain — the chemical responsible for happiness and mood regulation.

Put down your phone and schedule a dinner date with your closest friends. Strong social connection beats mindless scrolling any day!

Take a Bath or Shower

Emerging your body in a warm bubble bath has some serious benefits. Not only is it ultra-relaxing, but it also reduces inflammation and lowers blood pressure.

Similar to baths, showers also have a therapeutic effect. Spending time in a steamy shower improves blood circulation and eases physical stress.

Take the relaxation up a notch with the perfect shower gel. Our Spa Shower is formulated to lock in moisture and refresh skin. It also contains water lily extract, which is historically known to relieve stress and reduce anxiety.

Make Some Art

There’s no better way to unplug for self-care than making some art. Studies show that just 45 minutes of creating art can significantly lower cortisol — the stress hormone. Art also helps you get in touch with your inner self, which is one of the many components of healing.

Not to mention, painting is fun, even if you’re not “good” at it. Celebrate National Day of Unplugging by grabbing some paint and making a masterpiece!

Meditate

Meditating is the best way to fill your time. If you’re having some social media withdrawals, take a few moments to sit in silence.

Don’t worry if you can’t clear your mind. Let your thoughts pass like clouds. The purpose of meditation is to be present and aware of your inner voice.

Do You Need a Digital Detox?

If the thought of doing without your phone gives you anxiety, it’s probably time to go on a digital detox. Unplug mentally and do activities that nourish your well-being.
